Virtual Border Fence Disappears

President Obama has finally stopped building that high-tech 'virtual' border fence that has cost American taxpayers approximately one billion dollars so far for only 53 miles of so-called 'protection'. The fence started in 2006 when conservatives clamored for more border security. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano now says that there is no 'one size fits all' solution to border security.

Did she just now figure this out? Apparently so. What are we supposed to do now, anyway? Build a giant fence like East Germany did during the cold war? I bet those freedom loving conservatives would really love that.

What we need to do first is to pass the DREAM act, which was given the old college try during the lame duck session but was blocked by...by...who WAS it blocked by, again? Oh yeah, those same conservatives who want to return the USA to the '50's. The 1850's, that is. The DREAM Act would have afforded Americans who would otherwise be deported but know nothing other than the American way of life and many of whom only speak English a chance for a college education and a better life so that they may continue to continue to the fabric of American society.

It is ridiculous to worry about the southern border without first figuring out what to do with all the new Americans who are already here. We simply can't deport them all. A new amnesty program is what is needed. Then, and only then, should we worry about what to do on the Mexican border. Anyway, the vast majority of border crossers are law-abiding citizens who are simply seeking a better life and an escape from a desperate situation. Those conservatives who are supposedly so compassionate just don't bother to think about these things, it seems.

Conservatives keep talking about freedom, but they want it only for themselves.  The rest of the world can rot according to them.  America is a nation of immigrants, built by immigrants.  We should not deny them the opportunity for a better life in the aptly named land of opportunity.

Yes, America is the land of immigrants, built by immigrants who came here legally and wanted to learn the language and adopt our way of life. Before we can solve anything we have to secure our borders. By the way all those people climbing the fences are not all law abiding. Many of them are drug and human traffickers. Sadly politicians are loathe to tackle this issue. It's votes they are after, not security.

I agree with Pop. It's abolutely false that all the "illegal" immigrants are law-abiding. that's an oxymoron.

my ancestors had to come through Ellis Island, why not these?

I'll tell you why. Th Mexican government depends on these people to come here and send billions of dollars back to Mexico. Why doesn't Mexico attempt to better the economic conditions of these mostly impoverished illegals?

Rather than think about the cost of the high tech border fence. . . .what about the cost to the American workers and taxpayers who pay for the healthcare and education of these immigrants?

Nobody in Washington cares about the immigration situation, and that is because the focus of the wealthy elites of the world is on creating a global government, and this is going to be at the expense of everyone else. Get used to that idea, it isn't going to go away.
